Isobel Reviews: Meet Yasmin by Saadia Faruqi

Introducing Isobel Reviews! My first grader is an independent reader, and I often include her opinions in my reviews, as a child's perspective. But she has more than enough opinions to fill her own blog post. The first book she will be reviewing is Meet Yasmin.

This is actually a collection of four Yasmin books: Yasmin the Explorer, Yasmin the Painter, Yasmin the Builder, and Yasmin the Fashionista. It's important to also note that the Yasmin books have been banned from classrooms. You can find out more information about banned books here

Synopsis:

Meet Yasmin! Yasmin Ahmad is a spirited second-grader who's always on the lookout for those "aha" moments to help her solve life's little problems. Taking inspiration from her surroundings and her big imagination, she boldly faces any situation, assuming her imagination doesn't get too big, of course! A creative thinker and curious explorer, Yasmin and her multi-generational Pakistani American family will delight and inspire readers.

Isobel's Thoughts:

Me: So what did you think?

Isobel: I really like Yasmin. She goes on adventures in ordinary places. Like she started building, and it took her on a tiny adventure.

Me: What other kind of adventures did she have?

Isobel: She made a map and then she went to the Farmer's Market with her mom. She went off to the playground, and she told her Mom, but her Mom didn't know. And so they had to find each other again. That's adventurous.

Me: Which adventure was your favorite?

Isobel: When she was painting. There was a contest, and Yasmin ended up being the winner.

Me: So do you want to read more Yasmin books in the future?

Isobel: Yes!

Have you read Meet Yasmin? What did you think?
