12 Books in 12 Months -- The Official List

So here they are! The ten twelve diverse YA fiction books I'll be reading for the next ten twelve months. Yes, there are more than ten, because I had a hard time choosing. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing. :) I tried to make a broad selection, genre-wise. There's sci-fi, realistic fiction, and even historical fiction. And, umm, two girl detectives. Because things happen.

In no particular order (because I can't predict what I'm in the mood to read. I'm fickle from month to month!).

1) Cat Girl's Day Off by Kimberly Pauley

2) Strange Times at Western High (A Natalie Fuentes Mystery) by Emily Pohl-Weary

3) Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

4) Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz

5) We Were Here by Matt De La Pena

6) Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan

7) Monster by Walter Dean Myers

8) Killer of Enemies by Joseph Bruchac

9) Legend by Marie Lu

10) The Great Greene Heist by Varian Johnson**

11) The Agency #1: Spy in the House by Y.S. Lee

12) If I Ever Get Out of Here by Eric Gansworth

There is a Handsell-Off for The Great Greene Heist starting on May 27th. I encourage everyone to participate, please read about it here.

  1. I loved Esperanza Rising as a kid, but hated Monster because of the way it was written (screenplay writing is for movies). This is a great idea of a way to read more diverse books!

    1. I have mixed feelings about Monster for the very same reason, but I know a lot of people who love the book, so I'm giving it a try. Esperanza Rising has such a gorgeous cover
